Photo Reference Guide

Choosing the Best Photo for Your Pet’s Portrait: A Quick Guide

Getting the perfect portrait of your beloved pet starts with choosing the right reference photo! Here’s how to pick a great one:

1. Use High-Resolution Photos

  • Clear, high-resolution photos help capture every detail of your pet’s features. Blurry or pixelated images make it difficult to create a lifelike portrait.

2. Capture Natural Lighting

  • Photos taken in natural light (outdoors or by a window) help show the true color of your pet’s fur and eyes without harsh shadows or artificial color tints.

3. Focus on the Face

  • Close-up shots that focus on your pet's face, especially the eyes, bring out their personality. Make sure both eyes are visible, and avoid extreme angles.

4. Avoid Overhead or Tilted Angles

  • Photos taken at eye level with your pet provide a natural and flattering view. Try to avoid shots from above or angles that distort their features.

5. Capture Unique Expressions

  • If possible, use photos where your pet looks alert and engaged. A slight head tilt, relaxed pose, or a happy expression helps bring personality to the portrait.

6. Consider Multiple Photos

  • Often times, it helps to provide more than one photo. A close-up for details, a full-body shot. I personally like to have three or more photos to choose from.

By following these tips, you’ll ensure a beautiful, true-to-life portrait that celebrates your pet perfectly!
